Her Story

India and her two children are currently living at Hope Community Center. They have been approved for housing, but are in need of 715.00 for security deposit, and 253.00 for past due utilities bill. Once security deposit and utility bill is paid she will be able to maintain her monthly rent and utility bill.

Where did you grow up and what did you like about your home town?

Tallahassee and the homecoming celebration at FAMU.

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

I have two brothers, two sisters and two children. My youngest brother Ramon and I do not hit it off very well. My oldest brother Dimas I don’t see anymore, because he left Tallahassee years ago. My sister Tangela, I really don’t know her. Our family just met her a couple of years ago. The last Chantell, she is my favorite sibling and love her to death. I have two children a son (8) and my daughter is (4).

Do you have any goals you would like to achieve in the short term, long term, or both?

I would like to open my own hair salon. I am waiting on the people from Goodwill Industry to call me back to finish my orientation and start classes for CNA. I’m enrolled in Colorado Tech University for my BS in Criminal Justice.

Given a choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest and why?

Michelle Obama. She is role model and she is very inspiring to me. To be able to have a one on one sit down with the former 1st lady, I believe would open a lot of doors for me.

For what in life do you feel most grateful for?

My kids at school, my bills paid and a home cooked meal and being off work. Stay in to watch my favorite show “How To Get Away With Murder.
