Shanice’s Situation

Shanice recently became separated from her husband and is trying to get back on her feet. She has identified housing within her budget and has the $550 for monthly rent ready. She needs the help of Unhoused Humanity to raise $575 for the security deposit and $160 for utility deposit.

Where did you grow up and what did you like about your home town?

I grew up in West Palm Beach and I lived there until I was 10 years old. Two of my favorite things about growing up there were the art museums and the nice pretty beaches.

Do you have any brothers and sisters? Tell us a little about them.

I have an older sister and two younger brothers. My sister taught me how to ride a bike. Both of my brother were energetic, we used to love playing kickball together. We have grown apart over the years but we still stay in contact.

What is your favorite movie and why?

My favorite movie is Pocahontas because she never gave up and fought for her land. She kept striving for what she believed in and I admire that.

What is your favorite genre of music? Which artist?

I listen to all types of music. What I love about music is the lyrics, there is so much meaning behind what they are saying. My favorite artist is Adele and my favorite song is “Turning Tables” because she talks about not letting people get to close to hurt her.

What is your favorite kind of food?

My favorite food is lasagna because I like how it is layered with noodles, meat and cheese. I love Italian food.

Given a choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest and why?

If I could have any dinner guest, I would choose Ellen from the Ellen Show. I would choose her because she can choose a very serious topic and spread light on it but make it funny at the same time. Also, I love her willingness to help others.

For what in life do you feel most grateful for?

I feel most grateful for being at the Kearney Center. I don’t know what I would do without their help. I can eat there, shower. They give you a chance to help yourself and provided the resources that you need to do so.
