$560  raised

Goal: $560

We all fall down sometimes. It is our duty as human beings to extend our hands and help each other back up.

Verdell Jones, a mother and grandmother, has fallen behind on some of her utility payments. She is asking for $560. Her caseworker has verified that once she has raised the money for her past due bills, she will be able to sustain her monthly payments through her own income.

About Verdell:
Verdell grew up in Tallahassee with 12 brothers and sisters. She grew up a block over from her new apartment, Miracle Village, back when the roads were still unpaved. She is 74 years old and has lived in Tallahassee for almost her whole life. Her favorite part of Tallahassee used to be enjoying the abundant pecan and hickory nut trees that once littered the city.

What are you most grateful for?
Verdell is most grateful for her family and health. Her granddaughter particularly holds a special place in her heart. Verdell says that when she looks at her, she gets a sense of joy to see all of the life that she has. Her granddaughter has another grandmother that lives far away, and both of her grandfathers have passed away, so Verdell sees it as her personal responsibility to give her the love and care that only a grandparent can give.

What would constitute a perfect day for you?
Verdell describes her perfect day as a day she gets to spend with her granddaughter. She says her granddaughter’s presence uplifts her, and Verdell likes to spend time with her and make her happy. Verdell says that she doesn’t need to go anywhere or buy anything with her because the pure happiness that she feels when she spends time with her is something that money can’t buy. These are the moments Verdell cherishes the most. These are the moments that keep her happy when she is alone. She always looks forward to her granddaughter’s next visit.

What is you greatest accomplishment in life?
Verdell says the best thing she accomplished in life was having a beautiful daughter and raising her by herself. Verdell’s husband passed away when her daughter was only ten, so she mostly raised her alone. She's proud that she now has a beautiful daughter and an amazing granddaughter to call her own.
